It's true that Nintendo relies on a familiar cast of characters (remember, this is true with Captain Toad as well). But I don't think they regurgitate the same types of games. Your own comments earlier in the article point to this - Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, and Three Houses were all relatively recent games (at least, they were produced on the currently-available platform).

I think in this most recent generation, we've seen a renaissance for Nintendo - quite the opposite of being stuck on their laurels, honestly.

One reason why you might be feeling this way is because Nintendo has been largely radio silent for the last year (due to COVID, which seems to have hit them particularly hard).

With all of that said, I do think Captain Toad is a great example of Nintendo's creativity. It's a demonstration of how they take familiar characters and use them to introduce new gameplay concepts to audiences. I loved the dedicated Captain Toad game on Switch, and I'm hoping we see another one at some stage.
