Absolutely fascinating piece. I'd never really considered some of these points, but I tend to agree with Paul Tassi here. I definitely think that very few games have compelling-enough stories to actually warrant a film at all.
But that's not a criticism of games. I'm kinda in the Miyamoto camp here, where although I value great story in games...I think it's also unnecessary for a game to be fantastic. It's icing on the cake, but never the core of the experience.
So in that sense, I'd say the number of games that could actually justify a film adaptation is vanishingly small.
